We rounded off our May dates with an evening that started at the Wheelwrights Arms in Monkton Combe, where the early evening patrons were treated to some lively dancing in the sunshine. There’s a bit of a slope which adds to the entertainment.
Then on to a secret crossroads in Midford to dance for and share a supper with a long-term supporter of the Side. Hearing the music, families emerged from behind hedges and warm stone walls. A police car trickled down the hill, and waited for the dance to end and us to make way.
It was quite late by the time we got to the Fox & Badger in Wellow. There were still some who hadn’t tiptoed off to bed. They, and we, enjoyed a few more dances before settling down for refreshments and a few sitting-down tunes.
